KEARNEY — Marty Molina’s school-record triple jump doesn’t comeclose to the jump he’s made in life. “I didn’t think I was the kind of person who would ever go tojail, and I was looking at going to prison,” Molina said of theportion of his life that included alcohol and drug addiction andselling drugs. That life included courtrooms, jail cells, rehabilitationclinics and halfway houses. “Day by day, I make the decision I’m going to stay clean today,”Molina said.

For many days, he made the other decision. He had his first run-in with the law at age 14. Arrested forminor in possession of alcohol, he was assigned to the juvenilediversion program.

If he completed the two-month course, the chargewould be expunged from his record. It had a positive effect.
