Hi there, My PC unexpectedly cut out last night (i. e. it went from running normally to being completely switched off) and I figured it could be the heat as it’s been quite hot in my flat this week. I turned it on again and sure enough it switched itself back off again after a few minutes once I got some programs running. I turned it back on again today and it worked for a while, but then shut down again once I started up a game. So I opened her up and realised the CPU fan was a bit clogged with dust and cleaned that. Crossed my fingers and turned it back on (with a desk fan pointed at the inside of the PC to ensure that it wasn’t the ambient room temperature causing the problem). This time it shut down almost as soon as Windows was finished loading (I use WinXP by the way). My flatmate came to have a look at it (he’s no expert though) and we turned it on again a couple of times and at this point a new development occured. Before it was just simply switching off (no blue screen), but it was now saying that it hadn’t shut down properly and giving me the usual Safe Mode options or Start Windows Normally. So naturally I have tried using both the Safe and the Normal options and both end up giving me the blue screen of death before Windows actually loads up properly. Once it gives me the blue screen it resets the PC and begins the PC startup process again and back to the Safe Mode or Normal options and then back to blue screen and a system reset. If I go through the cycle two or three times it then shuts the computer off completely as it was doing before. I know that blue screen problems can be caused by many things so I thought I’d be quite specific in my explanation above. Because the problem has got worse I’m inclined to think it’s probably not a software or driver issue, but more likely a hardware issue. Perhaps through some form of overheating due to a hardware breakdown? I’m going to try and take out the RAM and see if that has any impact. I realise it could also be the CPU or power supply.
