Obama at ut higher education a priority …
Crowds were large and security was tight the president gave a speech at the University of Texas. Air Force One arrived in Austin at around 12:05 p.m. with Governor Rick Perry, State Senator Kirk Watson, State Representative Mark Strama and Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell meeting the president on the tarmac. President Obama then headed to a democratic fundraiser at the Four Seasons hotel downtown. President Obama’s motorcade then continued on to the Gregory Gym at the University of Texas campus where he began speaking to about 3,500 students, faculty and invited guests at around 2 p.m. The president’s speech included remarks regarding higher education and the economy.
The president said, “In a single generation, we’ve fallen from first to twelfth in college graduation rates for young adults. That’s unacceptable, but not irreversible.
we need to retake the lead. if we’re serious about making sure America’s workers – and America itself – succeed in the 21st century, the single most important step we can take is to offer all our kids – here in Austin, here in Texas, and across this country – the best education the world has to offer.
