I have got a new job in a good IT company but its into service desk and its for remote infrastructure support. But i really want to be in a field which is technical oriented.I am really confused now whether to study mcse or linux or oracle as i am aware that without tech certification i cannot move into technical side.My doubt is whether working in service desk will help me in future to move into a technical track & what certification i shall do to survive in future and i have also completed CCNA but it didn't help me in anyway:).People who have an idea about this pls comment on this as i have no one to consult on this issue. If there is anyother good certification please let me know about that too.

CCNA is excellent but it does nothing for someone working the service desk. I've been in telecom for 10+ years and have no certifications, I have a degree in computer science though. Have you thought of doing VoIP support, they are always looking for someone Cisco certified. And unless you're ambitious, you won't move anywhere at the service desk really. You have to be motivated and sell yourself. You could also expand on the CCNA with CCNP or CCIE...

I've already got the tracking #, they are getting ready to ship the item. It's supposed to be something that must be signed for though. Will they come up to my room, or leave it at the service desk, or will/can i pick it up at the UPS hub?
