If you pay them off in a consumer credit payback program, the bad ratings usually stay seven years, and are screened by potential credit issuers to see how you paid back the arrears. If you abandoned the owed accounts or are slower to pay off, the bad ratings stay ten years after pay off or are placed on P&L. Different state may have different policies, though. Seven years. But make sure everything on your credit report is actually yours.
